Frequently Asked Questions

Can you adopt the cats present at Chat-Rivari Café?

Yes! The cats present at the Chat-Rivari Café belong to the Booglaw shelter and are available for adoption.

The Chat-Rivari Café operates like a large foster family. If you have a favorite, ask us for the name of the cat concerned. To contact the shelter and initiate adoption procedures, you must fill out the adoption form directly on their website.

A question? You will surely find your answer here:

How do you ensure the well-being of the cats?

We put all our efforts to ensure the residents of Chat-Rivari Café are flourishing:

Both of us have obtained the ACACED Chat (Certificate of Knowledge for Companion Animals of Domestic Species). We therefore have the necessary knowledge to work with them and take care of them.

In accordance with the legislation, we have a referring veterinary health professional who carries out regular control visits.

We welcome about ten cats, depending on the needs of our partner shelter BooGlaw.

It is the volunteers of BooGlaw who select cats that will be able to flourish in an environment like a cat café: sociable cats accustomed to indoor life. A foster family contract is signed between the café and the shelter for each of these cats, and we are constantly in contact with the BooGlaw volunteers to give them news of our residents.

We are lucky to be surrounded by friends who are veterinary auxiliaries and feline behaviorists by profession. They give us advice on the layout of the café and on the daily well-being of the cats.

Where does the name Chat-Rivari Café come from?

The term charivari means a joyful uproar, a procession, a sort of carnival in which many musicians and passersby make noise with all kinds of objects.

For us, the name Chat-Rivari evokes the joyful and lively atmosphere that cats create when they get together in a welcoming space. It is this friendly and festive atmosphere that we wish to recreate within our café (of course, with less noise!).

I want to join the Chat-Rivari team, how do I apply?

We do not have any open positions for applications yet!

When that happens, a job offer will be posted on our site and on our social networks!

I am allergic to cats, can I come to Chat-Rivari?

Cats move freely in the café. If you are highly allergic to cats, we recommend consulting a healthcare professional before visiting us!

I have food allergies, what precautions should I take when coming to the Chat-Rivari Café?

Inform us of your allergies upon arrival at the café, so that we can warn you about the presence of potential allergens in some of our recipes.

Can I bring my cat or dog to Chat-Rivari Café?

No, unfortunately we are not able to welcome you with your cat (or any other pet).

Can I bring my child to the Chat-Rivari Café?

For safety reasons and for the peace of the animals, we cannot accommodate children under 7 years old in the establishment. From 7 years old and above, children accompanied by an adult are welcome! However, please make sure to read our code of conduct and adopt the right behavior with the animals.

What are your commitments in terms of inclusivity and accessibility?

Regarding accessibility :

- Motor disabilities: the café is accessible to people with reduced mobility but unfortunately, we do not have PMR toilets.

- Sensory disabilities (hearing and visual): we are learning about ways to make our establishment accessible to everyone and we will welcome you with kindness.

- Dietary restrictions: our menu is 100% plant-based, so it adapts to vegetarian, vegan, kosher, and halal diets as well as many common allergies. In addition, the main allergens are indicated on the menu.

- Sensory disorders / sensitivity to external stimuli: our establishment is a café that will not serve alcohol and will not play loud music. For the well-being of the cats and the customers, we will maintain the quietest atmosphere possible.

Regarding inclusivity :

We are very committed to making Chat-Rivari Café safe and welcoming for everyone. Any racist, transphobic, sexist, homophobic, ableist, or discriminatory behavior or speech will not be tolerated and we reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone with inappropriate behavior.
